Adverse Weather
If adverse weather conditions exist, or are anticipated, which may cause disruption of government operations, Federal employees should check prior to reporting for duty if OPM has released any announcements to the media (local news) as to whether Federal agencies in the Washington, DC area are "open," "closed," or operating under an "unscheduled leave" or "delayed arrival" policy. Employees can also check OPM's website at www.opm.gov or call OPM at (202) 606-1900.
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: During adverse weather conditions OPM will either announce the Federal Government is closed or one of the following:
- Unscheduled Leave (Liberal Leave): Civilian employees may have the option to take annual leave, time-off awards, or use compensatory time. For accountability purpose, employees should contact their supervisor of their leave status.
- Delayed Reporting: OPM may grant federal employees administrative leave for delayed reporting for duty.
MILITARY PERSONNEL: Unless otherwise directed, if federal agencies are closed, military personnel will not be required to report for duty.
As Ft Belvoir is considered outside of OPM's range inside the Beltway, the Ft Belvoir Garrison Commander can also authorize delayed reporting or closure due to adverse weather conditions specific to this location. Employees should check Ft Belvoir's website at www.belvoir.army.mil for status of the Post.
We're all aware the weather may create difficulty for employees to report to work or make it advisable for employees to leave their duty location early. While it is important to observe OPM's or the Garrison Commander's guidance, employees who anticipate problems with transportation are encouraged to exercise personal judgment concerning road safety in their areas and request unscheduled leave, if necessary, to ensure their own safety.
If unsure of reporting guidance, personnel should contact their supervisor for duty status.
Please contact JPRA J1 if you have any questions.
