The Joint Personnel Recovery Agency (JPRA) is a subordinate command of U.S. Joint Forces Command. The Commander, US Joint Forces Command (CDRUSJFCOM) is the DoD Executive Agent for Personnel Recovery, less policy. JPRA is designated as the Executive Agent’s office of primary responsibility for DoD-wide personnel recovery matters, responsible for executing the Executive Agent’s functions.

Mission of JPRA
The mission of the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency is to shape Personnel Recovery (PR) for the Department of Defense, interagency, and partner nations and to enable commanders, forces, and individuals, to effectively accomplish their Personnel Recovery responsibilities.

JPRA ensures integrated, interoperable PR capabilities through:
Development of PR guidance and support products, education & training, intelligence and operational support, technology integration and continuous adaptation.

  • C2I integration/architecture enhancements
  • Special SERE products
  • Commander & Staff courses
  • Deployable training/support teams
  • Joint, Interagency & Multinational training & exercises

The DoD personnel recovery mission is important for a number of reasons:

  • To return isolated personnel to friendly control
  • To deny the enemy a potential source of intelligence
  • To prevent the exploitation of captured personnel in propaganda programs designed to influence our national interest and military strategy
  • To maintain morale and the national will.
